Looking down past my nose And on through my toes That dangle over the edge of the precipe. I see down to the vastness below, Where the raging river flows And the rapids break like arms outstretched Ready to embrace in deceptive comfort, Inviting me down to sing their mellow song to the tune of the churning river. Just one little step and I’d be over, No looking back. The trip would long and eventful Until I hit the bottom and my dreams get shattered, But by then it’s too late to realise that chasing dreams with blinkered eyes, Down a route as straight as a die, Is a one-way trip to desolation Or should I step away, turn my back On the pleasures I seek, And stare into the eyes of the vast army of emptiness That engulfs the horizon. Behind me lies a future of unknown pleasures and undoubtfull falls, And in front lays my past, swords drawn, rifles aimed and soldiers primed, Ready to follow me where ever I may go. Do I step over the edge and try and forget the chasing army and hope the future will build me an army strong enough to mount a counter attack against the one that has fought me for so long. Or do I walk, head first into my enemy, attack them, a full scale assault, Slay the demons of the nothingness, Force them into surrender. Though this may take a while, it will lead to the emptiness being truly empty And empty things can then be filled again with nothing there to taint the new emotions used to fill the heart. |
