Tell me why I smile-upon a thought of thee,
When pain came first-though I planted the seed-
but the memories grew beyond the first that bloomed
in heart a passion- O in head the sweet taste of visions,
Thou art gone- but still remain as my shadow-
with parting hath the other half shown to be missed
to be complete-wholeness now a quest.

Reply-Reply-Reply
Like seasons change we changed-
First unknown- friends were longing moments spent
and by a sin- lovers with others but our own hearts in mind,
And once thee said before a pure soul-
Never say thee loves me twice for I want
to hold onto the first and know its meaning true.

And doth a tear cometh- I left thee to another-
hoping distance kept a promise
that thee not me shall be forever loved,
For in my own way I smiled knowingly-
as both hearts fell we knew we’d known beyond the word
and a kiss could never be but from someone else’s touch.

~ O, I do know whereof you so poetically spoke!

Beautifully written!
