The Bypass

The carefully studied city
scrolls past her fading sight.
She places her cold, thin-skinned hand
gently upon the passenger window.
Realizing she will never touch the beauty
of that which lies beyond,
she closes her eyes
and takes her final breath.

OH

this is amazing, nice strong write.

I love this.

It made me see her in a charcoal drawing.
How odd.

Thank you, Littlewing.

Yesterday, as we were driving home, I placed my hand against the window, with my fingers spread apart, as if "longing" to be on the outside.  Although it wasn't a bustling city outside, I imagined someone else making the same gesture.

Hardly odd at all, my friend.  I'm glad you liked it.

I'm glad this wasn't a death.  Lovely poem!
