So often I am chased throughout my waking days,
by my pets
and my commitments,
in so many ways demanding
that I spin their worlds this way or that,
and then when I am sleeping
I seldom rest from watching
over memories I need to keep in check.

I can forget the quiet times,
the in betweens
when I’m alone,
but not tonight,
tonight
I will salute the year that brought more pain than joy,
not that I keep counting either,
for life’s not a game to score,
it is simply an adventure where I’ve been blessed with more.

Blessings do sometimes come in disguise and the trick is to recognize them.  May 2006 be a happy and meaningful year for you.

Hoping the "more" to come is filled with more joy than pain...even if you don't keep score.  Happy New Year!

Love your poem and admire your spirit - as would Rabbie Burns (to both).  Sorry you had so much pain, but glad that you have your pets to love you.  What would any of us do without our pets?  They love us with such a shining love and never let us down.  Mine are the light of my life and without them I would have been in a curly-jacket long ago!

icebox...I am with you on many of your thoughts revealed throughout this poem.

I only hope I get stronger because of the hard times I have faced this year.

Thank you...Paul
