You call with lover's voice, "hello"
a loaded gun aimed at my heart
but I've bullet proofed my life
sheilded all vulnerable places

I refuse to note your brown eyes
smiling friendly over hungry
depths
I am no longer willing nor
desirous of hot honeyed pleas

instead, I shall call storms
to reign us in
winds to  whip away any
recollections of past needs
yes, I saw your tears in writing
treasured each drop with my soul
but I am not the same girl
she died in the empty arms of another
long ago

say, "Goodbye" with lover's voice

and say it like you meant it...

Sometimes those voices from the past are hard to find a place for in the present.  Your conflicting emotions are evident in your poem.  Wishing you a new year full of the love that you want to have.

The past does have a way of 'creeping' up on us!

"You call with lover's voice, "hello"
a loaded gun aimed at my heart
but I've bullet proofed my life
sheilded all vulnerable places"

~ But there can be chinks in our armor that make us vulnerable at times...

"yes, I saw your tears in writing
treasured each drop with my soul"

superb! The entire writing rocks, but those lines really took it to a level that I loved!

I understand this, and love this my friend, but wincing after Katrina--exercize caution regarding cleansings.

Much strength to this--but then, you do have that.

Damn, I know this, double edged sword of wishing I didn't but grateful I did:

but I am not the same girl
she died in the empty arms of another
long ago

When you make your mind up...
it is as sharp as any action
could ever be.
