To Joy II The back faced South and parking was West, Above the yard and over the hill a wide trail Led, Small was the ledge but to us it was best, With a view below to a wide and dry dale. Three walls were made of sections of old fence And the roof was tarp pointed by a middle pole, Both bought by collected allowance at great expense; The fourth wall a door to make our place whole. A little fort, ours to defend, From goblin and troll, To which away we stole, Whenever our homework did end. The trail went on through the little glen, Down the hill covered with California gold, Never venturing too war for so we were told, Imagination mixing with warnings of bad men. And East of the fort high on its proud hill, No little well connected to the canal network, But a great cave deep and dark full of evil will, There we found a dragon who we did irk; I refuse to believe it was just a cranky old cat Who wanted be left in peace with its old rat And who did not love the boy with a stick, Trying run him off with claws double quick. I forgot it for years that old hovel of ours, But now I sit and reminisce for hours and hours, I am not that old, I remember it in youth, The amazing difference ‘tween reality and truth. -majnu |

What a delightful read. May you always remember a dragon and not a cat because those were the good old days. Our reality is but our truth at the time. Helen |

oh majnu, this rocks! now you've got me remembering a tunnel (packed with treasures) in the dirt lot next door, which I attempted to defend from the nasty construction crew that was attempting to build a new home over MY playgrounds another story perhaps but I did enjoy the tarp as well as the fierce cat imagery |
