Venecian masks are made like this:
mocking fingers in wet clay
misery in glass, they ask
the "why" that I dare not.

Glossy lips lick paint in pain
mocking joys of yesterday
smitten upside down they say
that they were simply drawn that way
and no-no, nor was I designed
to dance the synchronicity
of a puppeteer and strings
tend to chafe my simple needs
and what I am is not.

My tears are drips of silver moons
mocking irises in spring
blooming life like this, and green
is yellow in an Autumn dot:

Winter begs for gold lame'
maidens suckle fingertips
etching stitches perfectly
drinking their virginity
lest they stain the frock.

A moving story of the woman behind the mask.

"My tears are drips of silver moons
mocking irises in spring"

~ 'Tis poetic genius!!!

This haunting poem calls out in pain, but with strength, beauty, grace and dignity.

The line “and what I am is not” reminds me of part of a pair of poems of mine called “The Night of the Cat” and “The Smile of the Cat” which I will post under the suite title “Cat Mystery”.

and are you seeing them there, now?

The masks . . .

seems they are reminding you of other times, other lives . . .

and if so, I am sorry for that Karen.

But I never knew that such a mask hid so much.

I made you a little something.

~ A masque has a purpose ~
It hides fear and shame.
Tears painted on them
Displays all the pain.
The colored ribbons remind us
We’ll be forever bound,
Unless we look inside
For what must be found.
A hole in the soul
Can wear no disguise,
Ever notice one thing?
Masks have no eyes.

If we look inside for all that we are missing, it has always been there all along.  Whatever it is we feel we have lost has become a permanent part of our very soul.

Karen,

You can think of, dream of and write of
things that have never even brushed my
mind.. This is no exception!

Well done.

Karen...Many many thoughts on this work of art. I will just say simply Karen at her best...Paul

We dance the dance of saddness
behind the mask of smile
Others manipulate the strings of life
while we grasp the knife
of freedom

I could read much more into this poem but would rather not...

Adding this masterwork to my collection, of course.  Karen, the line in addition to the "eyes" verse that grabbed me was "the "why" that I dare not."  I agree, you are a poetic genuis.  Oh, shucks, I know you don't care about that stuff....but you are!  luvsya, jojo
