Crooked

Okay,
don't ask me,
I'm not alright, 'cause
she kept me blinking
through this ramshackle coversation
a coversion to the mythical wonder in her eyes
her honey eyes and brickwall lies
stopped me dead in my tracks
dead,
but for the blue-green oceans
swishing 'round my head
bottles and cans, a 12 cent refund
everybody wang chung tonight
the party's inside my decaying liver
someone get to her, no matter the time
and tell her
I need her crooked grin tonight

Alright,
don't tell me,
I'm already there, baby
but oh, unheavenly, unhealthy girl
you don't seem to ever hear my pleas
be home in time for bitter green tea
bittersweet treat, the love of her
(emphasis on the bitter)
she slapped me down with a shrug
left me crawling, rolleypolley, with the bugs
down to the roots
but praying for her dark eyes
to be cutting through my baby blues
heavy from misuse
abuse of staring at her back turned,
walking away from me
oh god, how I need her crooked heart tonight

Oh lordy,
I'm pushing this car past 140
down the length of her cares
scattered across the black highway
trying with little luck to collect 'em up
and save them for a rainy day
that always seems to pour right out of her
but no dice

Oh I surrender
see, I'm left here in the smoking crater
of where I fell for her
wrapping my heart in ice
wrapping my heart and slicing through
the tangled feelings streaming from
you know who
you know

Toe the line
'till I feel fine,
but really, how likely is that?

Stop on a dime
finding a rhyme
to frame her like I wish her to be

Well okay,
don't bother,
I might be alright
given time and a strong shot
of whatever she feels for me
whatever baby, never you mind
the thoughts I've wasted on you
all this sickly fun time
but I'll take back everything
(except my barrages of love)
if you'll only wake up and smell the morning
the song I sing, an instant pick me up
to carve its way into you
if you want it
yeah, if you want it enough
like I want your crazy love
your crazy, crooked little love
tonight

(Just stop destroying my hopes tonight...)
