I remember a Christmas one time,...
when I was a little boy.
Though we didn't have many presents,
our hearts were filled with joy.
But when daddy put on his Santa suit,
my little brother began to cry.
So momma took his presents,
and made Santa say goodbye.
My sister got a stupid doll,
but I got a BB gun.
While she rocked her baby,
I put the bad guys on the run.
I remember a big old turkey,
with dumplings and dressing and apple pie.
Our plates were overflowing,
I'd never seen them piled so high.
The lights were twinkling red, blue, and green,
on our Christmas tree.
I felt so very special,...
Like it was all just for me.
Momma sat us all down that night,
before we went to bed.
And we all listened,
when from the Holy Bible she read.
The story told of wise men,
and a shining star in the night,
of the baby Jesus born into the world,
to be our guiding light.
Now these my memories of Christmas past,
are precious gifts to me.
And it is my joy to share them,
for all my friends to see.

Steve

A special memory for you...!  Enjoyed reading it...You still have that bb gun?  I'll bet that was a very enjoyed present for a boy!  And the reading of the true Christmas story made a warmth in the poem.

My dad retired the BB gun after I got excited watching The Cisco Kid and shot the T.V.:-)

Thank You Nancy, I remember the day I shot the T.V. more vividly than that Christmas day. By the time my dad got home from work I was sure I would be exiled from the family at least. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. :-)

Thank you Ratleader, your comment makes me remember a song from those days called "This Little Light Of Mine". Another happy memory, thank you again.

Thanks James, My brother a few years later was shot in the eye by a neighbor kid. The kid shot a hackberry seed from a BB gun without the plunger. Almost put my brothers eye out, so none of my boys ever owned a BB gun.

Thank you pictureme2, I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)
