Blessings Not Considered

(or, Finding New Ways to Pick Up Silver Linings)…

If it hadn’t been for him…

           who seeded this body
                  giving me daughters,
                          who bequeathed me with
                                     Morgan, Christopher,
                                                 Michael and Emily….

If it hadn’t been for the second him…

who, by virtue of a second marriage,
brought me a daughter and son-in-law
who bequeathed us with Lauren and Grant…

~*~

If it hadn’t been for them…

            who allowed me the blessings
of their insight, even when some of
their stories were never truly shared,
                                      still, if I look around,
the scattered pieces seem to start
                                                         to make some sense….

and if it hadn’t been for them….

who cried inwardly when I stumbled,
still allowing me to try to stand on my own,
even when all I wanted was to be cuddled
and loved by them, to return to the status
of being someone’s little girl shy….

~*~

If it hadn’t been for a public place

where the most private of thoughts
find a foothold in some blue hallways
where we think we are alone, while
                                          surrounded with others who feel…
just like us, empathetic with our moods…

if it hadn’t been for this public place,

where one man makes it possible
to find the silver linings of a day
when all the world seems gray
                                   where tears wash pains away…

if it hadn’t been for you….

the reader…
the writer…

I would not have known to consider
all of the blessings in my life…

Starting today....misty from this....and oh it does feel good.

Blessings are where we find them, Sunny One...that you've taught me, and sometimes I've learned it too.

How rich is the reward of sharing together and ever more so because you are here. The depth of your caring is exceeded only by the goodness of your heart. And who would ever have dreamed that it would be blue halls that bring so much joy. Bless you for being here and giving us such wonderful reasons to return.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Sunshine,
Thanks for reminding me!  It sure is easy to get wrapped up in a few negatives and forget all the good!  Yes, there is so much good to be found among the blue walls and all around.
