Ozymandias, Part Two... Inspired by Kacy-Midnightsuns, "when archaeologists dig" |

Two will meet, in a desert To dig for relics- one will speak; "These are the statues of their times, These craters lined with shrapnel, The kind that penetrates body parts". See here, where young men stood, Weapons leveled, sewing Bullets in sand near each others feet, Until lead found its mark ob flesh And one body fell Tumbling two civilizations... This is a monument, of dry chalk *"A shattered visage" Of ribs-skull and feet... No words were left at the scene, No description of the battle, No inscription above the displacement, Where bullets made boil pocks And someone thought A victory was gained; No note was found At the foot of this monument Like one that Ramses wrote... *"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings, Look on my Works ye Mighty, and despair!" Despair, indeed...laugh ghosts--Old War slaves, in desert winds speak A mockery.. at the *'sneer of cold command" For *"Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that (this) colossal Wreck, boundless and bare" Time wipes clean, the sin-slates of men Who write, I am *"king of kings" Beware! Sons of Israel, warring Egyptians- Palestinians, Americans-Saudis,Englishmen, All that follow the charge-tunes of bugles; Time and nature has a way Of settling your foolish arguments. If you don't stop fighting, All of you will spend the future Turning in like graves...beneath *"The lone and level sands (that) stretch far away." -- * excerpts from " Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) [This message has been edited by ice (07-16-2005 10:53 PM).] |

WOW, Ford! This IS future history. I love the way you brought in *PBS...* the Ozymandia's references and imagery is perfect! Thank you, for this superb piece, and for reading the 'dig' write. |

ice, The scene you have painted so masterfully will remain in my memory for quite a while, although, the events, so disturbing. I am really taken by your perfect word choice. miscellanea |
