the old elk was man close he had grown a spirit and knew of the creator when his eyes were gray there were pictures in them of the rider above the clouds young dogs ran by the water place they saw the ghosts in shimmer they barked at them talking they asked how to become fish so they could go up stream to the pond of warm sounds eagles were pieces of trees that broke off and fell slow the wind moved them faster than the quiet air they made the spirits laugh when they pretended to be children the old man is elk distant now he has outgrown his spirit and forgotten the creator his eyes are gray now and there are no pictures of him riding above the clouds I have seen these things I have heard them from the earth these things were not intended even the stones tell of them with their shadow writing when they make worry pictures that travel the long afternoons ______________ daark |

We oft times seem to thank you for touching earth and all of its tremors... . |

you touch a special place in my spirit with your words this morning D. I love every style of your writing, but so you know, this is my favorite... when your man spirit writes... live for today, |

I llllllllove this! The saddest stanza is, of course, the second-last. The whole poem, especially the last stanza, has a Hiawatha flavour except that Longfellow, I am sure, would concede to your superior talent. - Owl |
