A Poet's Love

Expression is its own companion,
a kind of friend,
and so,
come evening I choose a restaurant
where the management has had the good sense
to place a candle on a white table cloth.
Both seem hesitant, both depend
on waiting.
I feel content
until the door opens and the flame responds
to air currents,
leaving me alone, scribbling on a paper napkin,
a virgin to the meaning.

Yes it is so good to see you writing and posting more often.
This...this is softly tender..love the imagery.
Hugs~Nancy

Now - while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again...and again...

I'm so glad
your muse is blowing
on your candle frames...

That first apprehensive breath, as love enters...fuels indeed the candles flame.
Loved this,

Hello Bob

I have always been a fan of your writing and this was wonderful. The imagery was brilliant.

Take care.......Sue

My imagination tells me to step back and forward, to center this poem in a different senario..
Perhaps a someone else was supposed to come to this romantic dinner...that you did not make this date with your muse alone...perhaps in the aftermath, the scribbling on the paper was an afterthought?
The words coming under the stress of rejection...

Not that the poem does not stand very well on its own accord, I enjoyed it as it is...it's just that sometimes my mind wanders when I read a good poem...
