Something fades
their flight,
perhaps the batter
of the rain,
and the subsequent chill
upon the sun's release,

a bit of color,
lost,
collapsing,
on their spiral
down;

and autumn preps
to abdicate,
in the offer
of her leaves,
the sacrifice
of trees,
between bereavement
and the promise
of next spring.
