A Secret Kept From My November Guest |

My November guest is not a sorrow, Like to thought of Frost had come To shake his muses hand by visit, Many falls ago, in cold New England autumn. Then and now, that spirit same (?) Has come-to make a call, its finger prints All Smudged on outside things, As seen, through window frames. What "vexes me for reasons why" Seems dual as vex to one that lived All summer long, outside-nearby That ventures in from cold, to warm- In rodent form, to find a place to hide. Damp from rain, half froze-drove in By nor-east wind that mats felled leaves- Chagrinned, by change from Recent-warmer scenes... * On the hearth stone, fast asleep, My old-cat dreams a feline dream, Twitching paws-exposing claws; Its mouth, wide open- gulping Fantasies- its eyes are closed Though feline-dreamland mice are seen, Are caught, are chewed, are gone... Unaware, above the dreamer, Inching 'long the mantle path By whisker-touch, and beady eyes- (Very much alive) does traipse A meal of mousy, sinew-muscle Sewn to real-mouse skull and bones. Today, The hard visitor, showed its softness Proving time alone can sadness, change The mouse, this time escapes, And I think of Frost again- Remembering Why sorrows pleasure would not let him stay. My pet is quite oblivious-is Not at all displeased that autumn Came to blow the summer birds away; He dreams no winter dreams The kind that come to mice and men alone. Only the cat, and my sorrow wonder Why the mouse seems thought aligned With I, and why we claim no beauty Eyes for these, the things that try our spirits- Freeze our bodies, cold November days -- Secret is, Admitting might be thought as Praise of sorrow, praise of sadness.. So we hold these things untold, Private in our spirit circle, Where all odd secrets kept, By living mice, and men remain. Many Thanks to Robert Frost and the best poem about November (IMHO) that was ever written...his .."My November Guest", which inspired this poem. |

* On the hearth stone, fast asleep, My old-cat dreams a feline dream, Twitching paws-exposing claws; Its mouth, wide open- gulping Fantasies- its eyes are closed Though feline-dreamland mice are seen, Are caught, are chewed, are gone... a cold november night only a smirk of moon out yonder the stray kitties sit the fence until the morning dew, and bombs drop in places with strange sounding names; somehow the sun still rises. |

Your inspiration gave birth to a very enjoyable write ... the cat dreams of abundance, he knows better than to deplore what's gone, the world is in peace for him. See and behold! Beautiful! Love, Margherita |

this was fun, well written and thought out, witty, yet charming... Ford, what a pleasure read, enjoyed the play with words especially the first paragrapth, which from beginning to end, begged the reader to keep going....enjoyable you! |
