Dam the Tears By Larry Chadwick For my wife My mom taught me I could cry, It is something even men can do. And though she did not teach my dad, I saw that he was not afraid to cry too. Seldom have I cried in frustration, And in anger I have cried even less. But I have shed many a tear, All for the sake of love, I confess. Disappointment has caused a tear, But even that just once in a while. And from time to time, I have been known to share a tear with a smile. And pain has caused me tears That clenched teeth could not hold back. But more likely I am known to cry, From laughing at a joke somebody cracked. But then I buried you that rainy day, And crying was all that I knew to do. So now I save all my tears, Because I only cry for you. November 2, 2005 If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Yes, JM is right. You are a sincere and gentle man Larry. This poem reflects just that. Hugging you, Chris Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance. |

Larry, my friend....undam the tears...it is good to cry them out, for tears held inside a fortress of rocks, may instead cause angry shouts. ![]() |

Amazing I find that after a "rainfall" one feels better, at least until the next time. ![]() |

Ah, but alas it was only a clever line that had a ring I suckered for "I only have tears for you". Made it up. I couldn't begin to live it. JM, Dear lady you always respond rich enough to be satisfied with an audience of one. Bless you for that. Thanks. ![]() Susan, Thank you kind friend. But your heart is tender enough. ![]() Chris, Thank you sweet friend. Your kindness is deeply appreciated. ![]() Martie, I seldom play the "it's only a poem" card. But it's true. I just liked the line. And you couldn't possibly be more right as I know you know. ![]() Sharon, Thank goodness. Otherwise it would hurt too dang much. Thanks my little Canuck. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

A flooding river carries its silt to its shore, enriching the ground. Is it possible all our tears and pain are good for something? I know in my heart that the silt near the river makes fertile land, but it sure doesn't seem that way with our tears, does it? I wonder. Take care, Sir Larry. |

Your heart is so full Larry dear, and the fact that it aches so badly brings tears to my eyes as well. Even still, your writing is beautiful and touches so many, way deep down inside. Blowing kisses to the sky, all the way to Arizona~ |

miscee, I have written much on that very topic. Which are anchored in my philosophy that "grief without growth is pain without purpose". You are SO right. And thank you so much. ![]() Lauren, You are trully a friend of value. And thank you. ![]() Lori! Those kisses put awesome colors in the Arizona sky. You are the best. I pray all is well. You are too kind. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

There is something incredibly beautiful in the tears shed by the most masculine of men... whether those be tears of joy or laughter... or even pain. For someone not afraid to show he cares isn't afraid TO care... someone not afraid to show he hurts will do everything in his power to prevent hurts. So... do not dam those tears, my friend... let them flow... for tears born of laughter are as much hers as those that seep from pain... maybe more so... for the laughing tears surely make an angel smile. |

Ah Ruthie, For a second I thought you were talking about me! LOL And you know I am incapable of daming the tears. Here's proof: Confessions of Age And thank you for always investing so much in my writing. Your sharing is so very much appreciated. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |
