I walk this life naked
Baring my imperfections like a crown
Earned by stumbling, falling, bleeding
And I dare you to try to take it from me
For it is all that I have and I will not give it up

I walk naked through the streets
Of dying love ones, lashing my own skin
Trying to shift the pain
Trying to make sense of suffering
Nothing works the way it should
I walk with the stains of life tattooed to my body

I have ran naked from house to house
Looking for the home that should have been there from the start
Looking for the protection of parents that see beyond themselves
Pleading with tired eyes for some sort of recognition
That I am more important then the flesh they see

I ran naked with head held high
Screaming the injustice of just living
In a world full of greed, impatience and lust
Trying to break us, trying to make us
Into something reflected in their own mirror

I walk naked to show off the wounds and scars
Of not giving in to the consensus of this tormented planet
To show all that will look at my hideous scabs
That I can be brought to my knees but never for longer
Than it takes to weep for your blackened soul

I walk naked through life
To show you I have nothing to hide
And I still walk with pride because
I can cry for you, but never will I
Give in

this was exceptionally you, the forebidden most inner self, only yours, given by choice..and give a whole new meaning to..."you" choose your friends, they do not chose you.  Marvelously enriching right/write.

Some sort of recognition , more than the flesh they see , Susan I could relate , you could have been talking about me , but I agree ,  I refuse to hide , they can break my heart , but I will hang on to my pride

Susan, I love this line! For though I have no inked/artsy tattoos, I must be covered with this other kind! thanks for this cool write.

OK...so as long as you're naked anyway...

*grin*  Sorry, I had to do that.

The thoughts in this powerful poem touch deep threads.  Thanks for sharing it!

powerful and the validation of being true to self, hard to do these days it seems at times
when many want to box you in

Beautifully written and very interesting to read too.
Pleading with tired eyes for some sort of recognition
That I am more important then the flesh they see

~ I especially enjoyed those lines.

How's the weather in Fla, Susan?

Susan,
There is no more effective way to make yourself vulnerable than as you have described. You are indeed a BRAVE woman and admire you immensely. Here's to your courage and may life only get better.
Peace,
