As well as all the penny’s that I’ve thrown within the well Are memories of my childhood, of stories I could tell There’s wishes there and promises, years of what was then Regrets and many things I’d do, if time I had again So much there still lives in me, the little boy I used to be Who yearned for lives simplicity, the things that only children see The want of just another day, to find a friend to go and play To then go home and just have fun, memories that all now are done The well is more than half its fill As coins and memories pile up still And the bucket that I used to take A dent within the depths won’t make Ones search would need a shovel and a pick so it may find The one or two great memories that still linger in the mind And I would need to polish many coins that they may shine To waken what lies sleeping, what is dormant but still mine At times a few come calling, though forgotten by the soul Cos memories reinforce a life and help to make it whole They may be good or dreadful, a lessen learnt on way They might encourage trying more and living more each day So now I throw another coin and thought I might remember I know it is November now, what happened last September? It might come back, or it may not, Alzheimer’s fast advance Trying to keep memories in, while still I have the chance Memory doors are quickly lost unless you’re in the room The locks become quite stubborn and they argue much too soon Life’s pathway is quite hurried and it’s hard to sometimes slow And think back on the building blocks and times we once did know But we’ll return to childhood, when situations let Where we again can live in youth before we just forget And take a hold of yesterday or moments that just passed Rejoining what was once today and hoping it will last |

But we’ll return to childhood, when situations let Where we again can live in youth before we just forget And take a hold of yesterday or moments that just passed Rejoining what was once today and hoping it will last yes, indeed we will, return to childhood, as perhaps in another dimension we'll meet on that same plain, in the meantime, returning to memories is for, and all you say. Rick, this was exceptional prose...well done my friend.... have a wonderful day! Big long hugs |

Ones search would need a shovel and a pick so it may find The one or two great memories that still linger in the mind And I would need to polish many coins that they may shine To waken what lies sleeping, what is dormant but still mine this touches me so...I love the poem as a whole but this verse is so true to me M |
