Off the desert, winds blew east Sahara types that flash electrical- Swaying palms that rose in sweltering heat Of African beaches, beneath African skies. Ocean sirens called, To the hot young-men of breezes. Nymph voices, from far off shore; And the wind-men gathered up To leave the land, and greet them. Travel is pleasant, mid summer- Sails fill easy, above warm liquid. But though the sojourners searched the sea Alas, they could not find the singers; Just endless lawns of kelp and seaweed, That thatched the roof of king Poseidon Who sat his ocean bottom throne As the odyssey slowly approached him.. Neptune hitched his team of dolphins, Strapped his weapon to his chariot, And drove to meet the oncome of the breezes... "Ho! Said he (to the wanderers, that searched the sea) Among you be my lost son, Polyphemis?" " No! My lord, Its only we, young-men-winds Blown far off course who've lost the path That leads to sex with maidens; Freshets out from sultry ports of Senegal." "Your one eyed son, is not a one among us." Angered by the news, the king was livid- Old frustration urged him, stir the ocean, Whip to froth the main with pointed trident... Thusly done, became a turning vortex That sucked the travelers down to sea from sky... And the whirlwind circle-danced With churning water. Round and round, in dizzy steps The ocean king had taught them; Refrained the God," you have no use "begone! and take with you my curse, Your time with me is ended!" (Waterspouts are liquids spun and spinning Upwards towards the sky, releasing Bolts and thunder,( forged by Titans) (quote) the Greeks, and pen of Homer.) And then, from the cyclones center Rose, twin image of Poseidon's son, The Cyclops, not his frame, take mind But just his calm, but evil eye... end note... Traveling north then, the wind-men Circled the eye, until the day the group Reached the shore line of a continent, Just like in the ancient fable, Where a different eye is blinded. Although it put up a furious fight, The earth was Ulysses, the trees, his pike With which the eye was put out. |
