standing on a shadow's lace

Lingering On

ashes are all that’s left
letters I would have written
if I had just known
I waited lonely waiting
lonely for your words
there were breezes on oceans
in waves of garden roses
spoken promises of send
now sit yellowing in boxes
ache in never will be
from quiet fingertips
loving one who would not love back
lingering on
what grips me is regret
where whispers could have been

just some words cut out
from the diary of my heart
