"I Never Saw Her Cry" Each day when I would come to work the child was always there She'd hold his hand and talk about the things that they would share To young to really understand the coma he was in But she kept telling everyone that he'd wake up again He never would respond to her and everyone knew why The family didn't tell the child her dad was going to die I'd talk with her each chance I got and soon our friendship grew She sees our world through different eyes than what we grown-ups do She's cheerful, bright and full of life how could this all occur The one that she loves most of all would soon be leaving her The child told me her dad explained why mommy went away How angels came when she was born and took her mom that day She said that someday they will be a family like before Her dad will never have to miss her mommy anymore She really seemed to understand the things she said to me I was amazed each time we talked this child was only three Then sad enough the day had come while she was by his side I heard her say good-bye to him just right before he died The family tried to tell the child why daddy went away She said that he explained it all so she would be okay We thought she was in shock and just imagined what she heard She hugged me and she waved good-bye but never said a word My work was done and so I left with emptiness inside I took the long way home that day to have the extra ride I drove awhile and then I saw lights flashing everywhere When I slowed down I recognized what vehicle was there I saw how bad the car was wrecked debris spread all around Each one was there except the child and she could not be found We searched and searched so frantically she could be anywhere Then suddenly among the weeds I saw her laying there Her broken body couldn't move so I sat by her side Then carefully I picked her up and held her as I cried I tried so hard to understand why all this had to be The child then started struggling to say these words to me "My daddy said he'd bring you here and that you shouldn't cry He said when I gave you a hug I didn't say good-bye You see we'll be a family now and everything's okay My daddy told me everything when he woke up today" She then took her last breath of life and never spoke again She squeezed my hand then closed her eyes preparing for the end Her tiny body just relaxed and then I saw her die While holding her, I realized "I Never Saw Her Cry" © By: Freda H.
