I want my shadow to set me free.

But maybe that cannot be.

My conscience follows too closely,

it makes me want to run away.

For I am guilty of ignoring your pain,

being too focused today on my own gain.

So my shadow is chasing me again today,

out into the pouring rain.

"My conscience follows too closely,

~ Hmm, it seems as though you and I have the same affliction! However a good conscience does tend to keep us on the straight and narrow! Well, at least most of the time, n'est-ce pas?

Kacy, I have felt this way, too.

Kacy~

'my shadow is chasing me again today'

I surely know THIS feeling ... sometimes I even slow down enough to let it catch me~

Nice penning, poetess~

Where is the line that says "this is my pain and that is yours, which I cannot handle?"
Sometimes the only ease of pain is to observe others, even if we cannot reach out.

Ilove the points you make.  Well done.  Ken

Yes, shadows have a way of pushing where we never thought to go - don't wish it away because it maybe knows more than we do.

No matter how compassionate we are or can be we still have our own "stuff"

there is nothing wrong with focusing on our stuff too.

and you, Kacy, are one of the most compassionate people I have ever known.

I like the brevity and simplicity of this one.  It makes it more effective.
