Rediscovery They say she was once beautiful and sexy But always full of herself. Her reflection would not contest, Always smiling back to her in the mirror; And besides, who would say differently… Slim and trim, She was the thing to be… The years passed… And even though the outer beauty remained, She could find no one to appreciate the inner beauty; So, she did a few drugs to cope with the loneliness And drank a little more wine to remain fine, She was even pregnant once or twice, Causing that girlish figure to fade; And like a caterpillar weaving a beautiful silky shell, Makeup now covers up wrinkles and flaws, But it does not stop past suitors From seeking younger lovers…. She contemplated ending her existence, But wanted to ask for forgiveness first; So she picked up that great book, And verse by verse she read, Acknowledging the truths of these words By eating the pages one by one… Bittersweet the taste of love Sweet like honey down her throat But bitter in her stomach, Causing her to throw-up, all that pain And superficial vainness; Sickness spread into clear thoughts And the sun smiled brighter from the heavens, Showing her a truer reflection…… They say she was once beautiful and sexy But always full of herself, Now they say…… She is beautiful and full of God. Marcel, with God as my witness, your closing stanza caused tingles throughout my body. This was an amazing piece of story-telling ~ be it true or otherwise! It is sooo good to be reading your poetry again! Big, welcome-back hug, Linda |
