Beneath Roses Scent ~*Marge Tindal*~ Scented passion in silence grows Beneath the petals of the rose Whispers of thoughts, no one else knows Sub rosa moments alone have we~ Skin on skin … takes us in Singeing us time and time again We do not think of it as sin Sub rosa moments alone have we~ We will meet … as we have met Beneath the passion of no regret Destined that we should not forget Sub rosa moments alone have we~ If ever the passion between us is spent We will have known a special moment Forever kept beneath roses scent Sub rosa moments … alone had we~ Word of the Day for Monday December 19, 2005 sub rosa (suhb-ROH-zuh), adverb Secretly, privately, confidentially. sub-rosa, adjective Designed to be secret or confidential, secretive, private Sub rosa comes from the Latin, literally "under the rose," from the ancient association of the rose with confidentiality, the origin of which traces to a famous story in which Cupid gave Harpocrates, the god of silence, a rose to bribe him not to betray the confidence of Venus. Hence the ceilings of Roman banquet-rooms were decorated with roses to remind guests that what was spoken sub vino (under the influence of wine) was also sub rosa. ~*No matter what I search for ... |
