A Slower Pace Raced around the yard this morning. You know – stopped at every flower to admire Mother Nature's taste, looked down my nose at every weed I saw, kicked a tuff of grass or two, paused every foot or so to see how every thing looked – every angle a different perspective, a different view. Found myself back where I began an hour later, out of breath from the pace I’d set, the wondrous sights I’d seen, the beauty I’d beheld. Raced around the yard – tomorrow, I’ll set a slower pace. © w. james beard, jr. august 2005 |
