As the morning tide carries me Eastward into the waking sea The sky view is of deepest red, It is Mother Earth’s way to warn Of her wrath in approaching storm, I turn my rudder south instead Of Sailing in coming gale winds, To be delayed as my path bends Further from the joys of her bed. I think of her keeping my home As I sail this ocean alone Keeping taunt on every line Lashing down my heart and rudder As waves beat my ship does shutter, I retrace her face with my mind As if with callus fingertips Dream of sweet kissing her soft lips When next in loving arms I find. I storming last throughout the day, Taking me far out of my way, Calming with the passing of light, Clouds remain drifting in the air Blocking my sextants telling stare, I head back eastward in the night With only the compass to guide So I sleep as the stars still hide, Waking when at last the sun’s bright. The course is far from planned journey Yet I weathered the storm at sea, The delay won’t be to great hopefully. Gloom, enjoyed the poem, could almost feel the seas and weather...liked the words about the sextant's glare...does, doesn't it? |
