The Hard Way

So much time has gone by
and still she says
she doesn't trust me.
I have to find a way
to break down the
walls of defense,
so she will let
me in and stop
pushing me away.
I hope I can do
it the easy way.
I don't want to hurt her,
but it hurts me to be shut
out, to be pushed away.
I'm tired of the anger,
the rejection, the fruitless
months passing away.
This is going to go
down the hard way.
