1:1 This Land And Bones It is this land that holds the bones of our past Where buried are the ones who spoke before us And found these trees to give shade The meadows to be grass that allowed herds to grow Yet I am a stranger to it As I am a stranger to my heart For in neither do I any longer know the paths That lead to places safe When the storms come from the clouds Or that wend their ways through the rough stones Scattered by the hand of an angry god And would make us lame with a cruel turn of ankle I look at both The landscape where my mother nursed me to grow And that place inside where I would be fed today And close my eyes to the hills of cedar And my mind to the plains of want To find the words that explain to Allah how I in a loss of tongue cannot form the words to pray Nor wipe from my eyes the dust of this vantage So I might see my way to where, Come the cooler nights I could cradle the love Against my stomach Throwing stray leg over hers And keep us both warm Allah is not my Sheppard here And this valley grows longer in shadow So I walk with tremulous tread these paths And think of her 1:2 Eloquence And Sand My soul cries to yours With a voice lacking the patience of Job Though my tongue is tied, as was Moses’ When he in his earnest way Searched in the fire and chiseled stone To reflect commandments Telling us not to covet what we do not own Nor to kill or steal Slow these passing syllables seem to grow From my mouth While I feel the pull of you inside me And reach my words to the ways Which might explain such stirred blessings As the touch of you inside Here the date palms grow To feed any who might pluck from among the fronds Enough fruit to fill their throats with the sweet Brought by such caress of sun and placid rain As let the trees bear fruit I am barren in my own beg To provide the food to satisfy this need inside For you have not lent me the dew to sustain the root of me Nor spread in light the warmth of your skin To please my eyes I have measured my speech To find the distance between your shadow and mine And know the subtle ways in which we hide from night But know my own denial of Moses’ laws Will not allow me to absolve the way I covet indeed the way you move in me If my tongue is freed of this stutter And I find the rain I will try again to say the words To pray I might touch you Once again |

...Yet I am a stranger to it As I am a stranger to my heart ...I in a loss of tongue cannot form the words to pray ...Allah is not my Sheppard here And this valley grows longer in shadow So I walk with tremulous tread these paths And think ... ...Slow these passing syllables seem to grow From my mouth While I feel the pull of you inside me ...I am barren in my own beg ...If my tongue is freed of this stutter And I find the rain I will try again to say the words To pray I might touch you Once again ~*~ When you write, you press the blood... and when we read, we receive the blessing. |

Yet I am a stranger to it As I am a stranger to my heart For in neither do I any longer know the paths That lead to places safe When the storms come from the clouds Or that wend their ways through the rough stones Scattered by the hand of an angry god And would make us lame with a cruel turn of ankle when you write, we are all blessed in your gifts....well done sir.. very well done..... |

kind ma'am... kind words.... part of a two chapter series I have been writing..along with a third chapter of Lamentations.... most, I am simply not comfortable sharing... and these..probably two of the better ones that began the story... as for blessings...hardly a blessing to read my words... often they themselves I think more a sin... your kind words and the read..are appreciated. |

Ron If your words are sin, then let me sin...for they do touch me and so many with something deeply profound that you squeeze from the soul of you. Thank you for posting this...I'd like to see the rest! |

You already know how I feel about these, and I can think of nothing further to add. But I wanted to say thank you for sharing them here. |

As I am a stranger to my heart For in neither do I any longer know the paths That lead to places safe this reads like a psalm, Ron. I have so much to learn. |

When all the superlatives have been used.. may I just add a humble 'thank you'. Well done Ron, very well done! ~ Love, like magic, depends on believing. ~ |

After reading through twice... I was drawn back to the title... You leave no soul untouched, my friend... I agree with earlier comments... blessings. |

usually I don't read anything that has the word "chapter" in the title...don't visit Prose much either but if it's from you, I'll click |
