If Wishes Came True

Tonight I close my eyes
And travel through placid dreams
Skipping a penny across time,
As I look into the sparkling eyes of God;
And in-between tears and the question of faith,
I see Him blink once,
And then twice
And with sorrow, yet a third time
Granting me my three wishes.

With my first wish,
I prayed the devil to sleep
So I could lucidly paint serenities beauty---
My eyes brushing lightly,
Against the inner lining of my thoughts
---Upstroke black
---Down stroke white
---Upstroke black
---Down stroke white;
It is the colorless wings of angels
With faces that rival the blackness of death
That come to life upon my canvas,
Bringing to truth the realities of sin
Causing the devil to awake and smile.

For my second wish,
I wished for true sight---
To see beyond the sunrise and into the human soul
With my hands braced over the edge of golden light
For a peek of the dead and the living
Wandering hopelessly for purpose and meaning
Not realizing they are just pawns;
Perhaps my gift of insight and compassion
Can offer a word or a gentle embrace
To a world quickly losing favor from its Maker.

My third wish
Would be to love---
To love God
To love the smell of roses
To love those that hate me
To love one woman forever
To love the sun…
The moon…
The stars…
Sunrises…
Sunsets…
Dreams…
To love me when I awake.
