" Daddy's Hand " I wake up and find the sun shinning bright I realize that I have slept here all night While walking back home a funeral I see Yet all of these cars are familiar to me Someone has passed on so I'll go inside Yes I should find out what special friend died The faces of friends and family are clear Why wasn't I told so I could be here The pain they all show from tears they have cried They really have Loved this one who has died I speak and it's like they really don't care Ignoring my words why aren't they aware So I start to yell and finally I said "For God sakes, Please tell me who is it that's dead" I stood up and found no eyes upon me Yes, something is wrong I must go and see I touch who is close as I'm passing by Their clothes didn't move I'm wondering why Then I look inside the casket and see This girl lying here looks so much like me Feeling so strange as I turned around I realized my feet weren't touching the ground I started to cry it just couldn't be The girl lying here could never be me Then way in the back a bright light appeared So blinding it was till my vision cleared I saw in the light a tall slender man He stood very still and held out his hand My God, It's my dad amidst all the glow It couldn't be true he died years ago He said, "I am here as I've asked to be To do for my child what she did for me The girl lying there? Yes honey, that's you Your job is complete there's no more to do They can't hear you now but this you can know We'll see them again for now we must go" I asked daddy what had happened to me He said "It's all right and soon you will see" As we left I knew I would understand So I held on tight to my "Daddy's Hand" © By: Freda H. Most all of mine are sad but that's the way I'm instructed to write. I myself am not sad but I'm what they call a very deep thinker. I've only been writing since 1991 when my husband was in the 1st. Gulf War. At that time, writing poetry was the furthest thing from my mind. In fact, I actually disliked poetry but God certainly fixed that, LOL! You've all been so nice.
