The children Pay No mind To Heat |

Dry now, dust hardly settles- On country lanes, lack of rain Allows car-trail smoke To paint white siding, brown. Windows that were opened To let in spring, are closed. The sun has claimed the season For its own, Wheezing voices from within The woodstove rest, No longer singing pops, and dirges, It's the air-conditioners time To hum an "I will cool you" song. Outside, the children pay no mind To heat, in sprinklers find a slant Of sunlight makes, a rainbow profit. The gold that buys their glee flows free From the end of a rubber pipe Placed out to ease, the deserts parch That tried so hard to bleach to yellow, All the grass that grew up green. Side-yard shade makes soothing mint To cool the devils breath Where grandpa stands- Hose in hand, dissolving Car-dust plagues That fell like satan's curse, Upon the siding of his house... While he sprays, comes Day-dream scenes Of summers that have past; From human memory, Change, is never fully- Washed away..something Always there remains, Things we thought Were long forgot, retain Like specks of dust That cling to clapboards, Even after most are washed away. Giggles shake him from the trance... The sights and sounds Of children steeped in happiness, Beneath a sprinkler shower, Makes another bank deposit In his memory account. Ford I loved the way you did this....with the comparison of the older man and the children. I think children do pay mind to heat, the difference is, they know what to do to make it fun. As we get older, we think ourselves too sophisticated to play childish games. I think we can learn much from the innocence of youth. |

when I was young, I thought those sprinklers were out there for my entertainment...now I see that they are just another grown-up chore. |

I was just thinking about this very thing. As a kid, I would spend hours in that steam of a swamp they call Louisiana. *shaking my head* "it must be the hormones..." Thanks for triggering the memory, Ford. A lovely reverie. |

Ice, While he sprays, comes Day-dream scenes, Of summers that have past, From human memory, Change, is never fully- Washed away..something Always there remains, Things we thought Were long forgot, retain Like specks of dust That cling to clapboards, Even after most have washed away. How I wish I could write like this... Enjoyed this very much. SG |

"The sights and sounds Of children steeped in happiness, Beneath a sprinkler shower, Makes another bank deposit In his memory account." ~ Ah, yes! Those are some of my favourite memory account deposits! A beautifully written piece of poetry from your seeing heart. Love & Child Light, Linda |
