“Come back, come back, we’re worlds apart” she cries into air hanging heavy and hard and she sidles up to the shadows of life away, far away, from the glare of insight seeking so in the dark a cradle, cot, pram, to sleep as a baby not giving a damn. But shadows are so predictive, you know, for they’re cast in a mould according to soul and they rock back and forth each memory recall till swaddled she is in the heat of it all. Drenched now the pillow her head lies upon each night as the moon glides smoothly along for fast flows the water between here and there over the rapids of her every prayer. And silence returns like an echo of fear stealthily creeping, nearer, nearer, too near, till all that is known sets her in the cold the cold, so cold, of a grave stone. “Come back” perhaps just words on a chart or maybe the plea of a broken heart from somewhere out there to somewhere inside the hard to bear air or the glare of insight! |
