THIS YOUNG MAN SO BRAVE This young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret The stars and stripes Now rest above him. And I ask you now Sons and daughters of liberty Who will help carry This young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret. Will you honor him By putting down your signs And letting your voices grow silent. Will you show your compassion And carry the coffin of This young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret He joins the spirit of the ‘76 As the eagle sheds a tear. For the cost of your freedom You express today. Was the life of This young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret. A mother mourns for her boy And finds comfort in knowing His spirit lives on through those Who served next to him. For they live today because of This young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret. Tears fall and break the silence of Taps As he is lowered to rest. The folded stars and stripes Now rest in the hands of the mother Of this young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret The echoing thunder of shot burst in lonely dance upon endless rows of white crosses Gently swaying in eternity’s slumber as mere blades of grass all the while knitting a tight cluster in the heart of sorrows haunting memory Of this young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret May the blue fields that rest above him now wash over his bloody lines as he burns bright in twinkling white light watching over you and me from now till the day When freedom makes its last call. Of this young man so brave Who wore his country’s beret. Though it has never stepped past fear |

I could feel a lump growing in my throat as I read your powerfully moving poem. You did a very fine job of showing the other face of war. So many have lost their lives. It truly saddens me. Peace, Love, Light & Harmony, EA |
