Dandelion Offerings

I know that spring has finally come
When yellow fills my yard
When blossoms overtake the grass
And killing them is hard

But every flower takes me back
To arms outstretched in joy
With dandelion offerings
Held by a blonde-haired boy

For through my innocent child’s eyes
This pesky, hardy weed
Became a lovely, fragile flower
Nourished by love’s seed

My mower waits in my garage
For yet another day
Till every blossom’s gone to seed
And gently floats away

Within each tiny yellow flower
That in my own yard grows
Lives love much greater than ever found
In any single rose

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

Dandelions are one of my favorite flowers, and of course, I'm sure you know, that the entire plant is edible and full of healing vitamin A!

gleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

All this, and the added bonus of wishes granted, with nothing less than a purse of the lips and sending the seed to others.

And that, you have always done Ruth.

Welcome home. truly magickal timing

I have a dandy dandelion offering... Hope you don't mind my responding in kind...

The sun shines high: the rain's gone by.
It's Dandelion Day.
From fertile spawn my plush green lawn
Is mottled yellow spray.

The neighbors' round, all cutting down
Their blades and flowers gay ~
Now green they've got, a common lot,
While mine's in vast array.

Why should I mow these lovelies low,
Defying Sunshine's ray?
To bring them down the sun might frown,
And turn blue sky to gray.

I'll let their seeds fallow new weeds
And mow another day.
Resplay they should, the neighborhood.
The Dandelions stay.

Love ya, my friend...

Ruth....Hi!  It's so very good to see you posting!  I love dandelions!  When I visited Pennsylvania last year I was smitten by their yellow heads within the green lawns.  We have them in California too, but they are a little different.

When I read this and see Nan's response it sure brings back some heartfelt memories of our times together Ruth.  This was wonderful work, as only you can do!  By the way, the only way to get rid of them is dig the suckers up!  That or dynamite!

you can eat 'em too?

well I mowed the grass yesterday but left a patch of them at the front by the gate

just too pretty to mow down, even if I could have maneuvered the riding lawn mower into that area without running off into the ditch...

nice write here

What a delightful dandelion poem! I love dandelions! I think they look so beautiful on a lawn. But alas, our neighbours are not of the same mind. Therefore, we have to conform to their wishes ~ and the city by-laws! ~ and cut off their glorious sunny heads! It pains me to do so!

What a sweet and sensitive poem. I always enjoy your poetic offerings. I just wish that they came more often.

I hope that Christopher is well on the mend. I still send up healing prayers for him.

Warm, welcome-back hug,
Linda
P.S. I sending a big hug for your nephew as well!
