Upon blank page lay words unwritten,
A tale of life by sorrow bitten.
Of a place far far away,
How long ago, no one can say.

Death snuck in on noiseless feet
No trumpet's blare of life's defeat,
No spotlight's glare of death's extol.
And stole away a mortal soul.

What mourner's weep to silent dirge?
No absolution nor sins to purge,
What hymns of praise to gods on high?
Nay-  silence lays; absence of cry.

Last night alone, an old man died,
A tale untold and no one cried.

Oh Tim, this is so sad, but so true of many a soul, who dies alone ...
You have written this in a way that touches the heart of the reader, beautiful Poet.

I think, after crossing the threshold, each of us will come to know the true meaning of our lives. Because of this I am certain, every life HAS meaning, whether it's short or long ...

Love, Margherita

If he died alone, my hope is that he didn't live alone.  Very touching writing, Tim.
