Between the Lines

I feel the loneliness for not being one,
and the emptiness of the first one
when she is no longer here for her children
nor for my Mother.

In two weeks we shall gather together
in memory, placing the warmth of a stone
where small ones have been resting
to show we have been there, always.

One son back from Iraq, for now,
family together minus one.
