Listening to every heart

0 posted 2005-04-24 08:48 AM

I am Moved…

Shadows come from different edges,
my south is no longer to my left if I look this way,
so I turn into a new light, and look that way.
I rambled my feet to a stream, to just listen to
rocks playing with water, but the winds blew too cold,
chilling my thoughts away from despair,
crisping new steps.  I am moved.

Boxes hold my life, yellowing papers outlining failures,
and successes,
those failures tangling my fingertips like flypaper,
though no shaking of truths will allow me to
throw away the fact that an error here, or there,
will ever leave me, as the small successes
pile neatly into a corner.  I am moved.

I keep the unopened apple butter jarred
by her hands in ’92, her rambled writing of identity
scrawled across the lid’s pasted label,
hear the joshing of choice, “you brought that, too?”
and only nod, befitting as it is that some connection
accompany me within new walls that quietly ask to behold the
art of some life that smiles…

but I do not open it – for it joins this small rock
in my pocket, this smoothed stone of you,
a talisman they are, as I am moved…

Over there, where the bench has found a
new way to please,
under the white pear tree where robins pull on fat worms,
chimes now hang to sound the morning…and over there, an
old cottonwood stump crumbles, but will feed new old roses,
a water dish will serve to nurture and cleanse varied wings of song…
and I will surround myself with old, as we together
touch the new, and these memories will show a way that
I am moved…

I've really missed you, too!

Sunshine,
Your poetry is so easy to identify with--  especially the unopened jar.  I'm so sentimental that I saved a cookie, believe it or not, for about a decade.  It had been one we made together--just couldn't give up that one last tangible piece I had!  Just like this poem--just can't give it up.  You know where it's going...

I'm glad to hear of the nice transition you are making.

In this mixture of old and new, you bring balance and you move with grace and with an open heart and clarity ...

Beautiful!

A very "moving" piece Karilea.
Have missed your beautiful words.

Yes, sissie...you are moved...and I am moved from reading this beauty.  I want to walk the yard of your new and go in and out of doors with you...one day I will!

Sigh...another instance of by the time I get to sign your work, all the good words of praise are taken.  Please accept my thoughts on the success of your hard work and joy for your new home.  Ken

Karilea,

It sounds as though you are experiencing great change in your life. This is an exquisitely written poem. Please submit it somewhere for publication?

Hope all is well.

Thank you all for being "moved" with me. Probably my last move to a "new" home...and if it is not, then I'd better have enough bucks to have someone else do it for me, because it dang near wore me out.  THAT, or one HUGE estate sale!

But the house? charms me...and I am at home more so now than in several decades.

Come, visit. See me smile with lots of hugs!
