Their cloak, a tattered blue or grey
astride the shattered lawn.
Born tender lads who quietly prayed
and now from earth are gone.

Heavy fell her heart, discharged a leaden ball
Thundering her ears, the sears of darkened day to fall
The powder flashed eternal through her silken mind
And passed along lapels of gray as destiny defined

They fought against a brethren foe
encroaching  trenches dug
and never would again most know
a tender warming hug.

Heavy fell her heart, along the scorched dry field
Thundering eternally, a cause that could not yield
In charred born blackened dreams of war resigned
To take a man her life revolved this liberty to find

A war of words that grew from spite
which each believed was true.
Too many sons would cry in flight
and spill their bloods anew.

Heavy fell her tears to soak the earth so dry
Wandering the stagnant air along a gray night sky
It seems that dreams the frail to frayed, bowed lastly in disclose
The arguments bought with the blood a sedentary rose

I believe I know
who wrote what,
as a gentle twine
of voices
left the sedentary rose...

beautiful!

Kathy wrote beautifully, far beyond my meager
fare.  Always able to reach the mark,
a gem for certain.

Wow.  That was enchanting.  I can't find anything wrong with this poem, even I wanted to critique it.  It's masterfully written.

If not for your enduring spirit and keen eye for detail, I could not write to such reality Barry.  Make no mistake...the pleasure is certainly mine.

Thank you all for your kind responses.

An exquisite duet from two of Passions finest!
Very much enjoyed...hugs to you both.

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul

I love the step back in history, and the ever true sorrows of the heart and the loss of loved ones to war - well done you two-
