Beautifully sad, haunting,
mesmerizing eyes that would bring
time to stand as still as a grey
weathered tombstone
on a frigid winter day.

Eyes that reflected centuries of
trial and fearful moans, times of
shed blood that flowed freely
toward southern seas as the chill
of a laughter’s sigh clutched at
the heart of man.

Eyes that taunted, undressed and
stroked the shivering skin of man.
Eyes that riveted feet to a wooden
floor, stifling the squeak of weathered
boards and scribed the dew laden
mirror that squirmed in reflect.

Eyes that wrenched the soul from one’s
dying frame, as lips struggled to
utter a woeful cry...and trembling hands
reached out and weakly grasped a
dark cloak, wanting only to know.....
Is it me?
