Walls of closed shops tunnels the empty mall, Whilst the starts shelter'd this charter'd street. Four, three, maybe whom I saw trodding quietly As the city safely sleeps. Footsteps I heard and voices of quiet chatter Of the lovers, of the drunk's harmless jibber. Oh the melodic snore of the street.... Seduced by a soothing lullaby, Sung softly... Listen.... listen.... Listen to that tune of soothing sorrow... Of the violinist and his violin Watch them, As their melody fills the air Of the sleeping charter'd street. Though above watch'd a silent audience; Guardians of the city, soldiers of fortune, Shielded by useless armour of concrete Manacling them there forevermore... So they watch'd with gentle envy, Watching the violinist Leaning to the shoulder of his violin As it lean'd on his shoulder too. Two more passed them by, Silently, invisibly. Though he play'd and play'd and play'd That gentle screech of the violin's soft whimper, The melodic tune of soothing sorrow, Comforting one another In the midst of their beautiful melody. And he play'd and play'd and play'd This marvellous melody Grasping the marrows of the music Twining and dancing in the air Enriching the air Through the gentle motion of the snare. And in this charter'd street he play'd and play'd and play'd As his heart clenched joyfully in vain! Sculpturing the beautiful notes sung by his violin; A masterpiece no words can explain. O what a magnificent singer the violin is! The voice of a thousand thousand harpies That can hurt a thousand thousand armies, Yet as soft as a lonesome virgin in bliss. And so the violin sang and sang and sang. Flooding the charter'd street (Where you and I should meet) With a light That like a flint of flickering flame do hang In a lantern to things keep bright And give that of a comforting heat. ...Though unnoticing more passed them by Like harmless walking deads, Though play'd on the violinist will To the marrows of the music still! Though the case is scarce with coins They carried on their beautiful melody, That to me is like a remedy To the heart through inches of my loins, Listening to their tune of blissful tragedy. Oh, the violinist and his violin... Tunes of soothing sorrow impossible to describe Which sang the violin through the violinist's heart, Which may have moved the souls of women and men Lucky is the violinist to have his violin, As I, with this pen. |

I think this is great. It is easily visualized, as well as heard. Many times I found a melodic rhyme hidden within the lines themselves. I think this was written in a more complex manner than might first meet the eye. But who am I to comment? I'll save this so that I can re-read later. Thanks! Sadie |

And so the violin sang and sang and sang. Flooding the charter'd street ~*~ Oh, lucky us, for your pen and for your imagination... and one seemingly shouldn't write about what one doesn't know, or does not care about, so I would share this group with you... for a listening experience that you are sure to enjoy... and better yet, if you ever see them in concert, you will then be as lucky as I. Well done, Sir. Enjoyed this immensely! http://www.leahymusic.com/ |

*sigh* and a soothing heart tune this write is; for even within the sorrowful notes, the violin always sings of the love of life. |
