I swallow my pride rather than choke on it
and wonder what is it that makes me feel
and need and want a kind of love
that probably no longer exists for me.

I weigh myself daily (without scale)
and I am still heavier than I wish to be...
the wait/weight of thoughts holding me down
at a level that needs heels to lift/kick me up.

I dance with fear every day, drink time
from the bottle that sustains me, its rosiness
probably meant for another, my reflection in it
always a distorted view.

I have marked the ounces...drinking only enough
to be half filled and leave it half emptied,
wondering what that other half of life could be like
if I ever chanced it once again.

So I swallow my pride, my throat tight
but allowing the sips to get through, remembering
that tomorrow will arrive, and hoping
the taste of it remains sweet.

~A~

whether a distorted view or not, your poem divulges those inner feelings so well!  Hope things soon look a little rosier.

I think I need some of what you're drinking instead of what I'm drinking

swallow the bitter with the sweet...
and where the two meet..is where you are destined to find reprieve....

You have a way of putting in words the way I feel. Hope you are okay.
Miss you, my friend.
