A portrait of smiles Melting away Paper doll features masked by dark light Tears leaving moist trails along a pale face Masked for so long by false countenance Running free in the bitter wind, Yet feeling nothing at all Numb to the emptiness surrounding this dim future Blue eyes begin to close as everything slips away So empty inside, no youth left Innocence once so pure is spotted with guilt The lights go down A painter smiles at his God given talent He has painted a masterpiece A piece that lets the world know what’s hidden by a bright façade A dying young girl* |

Hi SarBear. This poem is so well written...and wrenches at the heart so completely. The last line made me want to cry. This truly is A Masterpiece. Bravo dear friend. |

Oh, beautiful. Reminds me of why I write. Wonderful poem. Thanks for this. "Poets are all who love, who feel great truths, and tell them; and the truth of truths is love." --Philip James Bailey |
