Twelve Ways to Look at Autumn Leaves
I
death and dying to verdant green birth to rainbow’s amber end
II
moisture sucked into the earth dryness giving colors life and light brightens and dulls the carpet across the land
III
listen...the crackle, rustle whispers and shouts of turning times
IV
footsteps shuffle autumnal dance prancing, head high and low winds blow weaving tapestry of post-harvest days as winter preys upon the lonely
V
a quietness is awakened by fall’s floating whispers and silent whimpers as vegetation begs the compost coating of nature’s footing
VI
roly-polys, night-crawlers, beetles, larvae slumber beneath the decay of summer’s downfall
VII
children scamper, toss aged strands with energetic hands, upon the heads and shoulders of giggling friends
VIII
artists harvest perfect specimens for collages, silhouettes, samplings for crafting memories of texture, color, spent life
IX
pungent, aromatic, peppery scents waft a woodsy ambulant stroll across knolls and dells around ponds and well-iced lakes
X
cushy, damp and cooling leaves atop which the tired elk, bear and fox nestle up a nap in a quiet corner of the forest
XI
salty, minty, acrid bedtime snacks bring sleep easily within winter’s cocooned abodes
XII
and I test the supple flora finding most have spent their lithe moments and become brittle, fragile, delicate as they decompose their last hours before dust claims them, salts them into a semblance of invisibility where they feed the future tasty genomes for breakfastWhether on the shoal or on the shore, I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

outstanding write, but this was my favorite...enjoyed
In answer to your question on my poem the pudgy face of school/life leaving me on my own to choose does that answer your question?
Thank you for inquiring

and one is brought to think of ashes to ashes, dust to dust...for even the leaves go the way of life...
