A Bed to Tend So, tell me how it is for you When it comes to tending beds, Where soft dampness Of dew lines succumb To the palm of your hand And careful planning of seed Is not figured in a hurry, As pale thoughts take on color, Though your hands are eager to touch Their soon to be nesting place As you hear sounds of want With earth ears and shivering limbs And an anxiety to see all come to Fruition, as spade enters earth’s womb Again, and again, tucking into its seams First a bulb, then your hand, Covering brown over white, or tan, or even Pink tinged oval rounds, And the earth moves under you, Soft round mounds covered With your hands, before the frost lines Lower into its depths, for now, It is alive, still warm, Supple enough to greet with welcome Who you are, and what you bring Like the lover of nature that you are. Time is too soon spent as limbs ache With the habits of yesterday, aged, A fine shine along your features as you stand Surveying your efforts, For you have tended the bed Well enough, then layered a blanket To tuck in the warm, to edge away for moments Any frost, until the winds hold their own And blow away time. |

The weaving of spell You handle so well. Lovely story of planting in beds of different types. KJ Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

This has as many layers as the earth itself... and each one is delightful. *S* I'm in a world of gray, missing color... you make me believe it will be mine again. *S* |

It is so....just so. You capture this so well, an aspect of love that wouldn't seem like grist for a poem, but in your hands it is so natural that I can't imagine it not becoming a poem! You're beautiful, you know...in every way that counts, and some that don't. |

So much faith has she, To bury rounds before frost, The world in turmoil... Cannons flash the horizon, But they cannot dull her dreams. --------ice/ford ><> [This message has been edited by ice (11-06-2004 08:03 AM).] |

Some laugh at people who talk to plants but like us they have a family to tend, leaves, they make a home for birds, I could go on and on this brought about by your lovely poem. Maggie |

Now there's a bed worth tending and written with such loving words you can be sure spring will come again. Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |
