Chained Autumn brings certain flight of pheasant, prairie chicken, quail and hen This is when deer run, coyote hunt, rabbits and squirrels mark their signs, Even turkey are found on a run, in hail of some conquering heroes From yesterday. When life for life is required for survival, a need to feed families, just as all, and Fowl took bite of crickets, ’hoppers, beetles, and such, raise the bar for carnivores, All with families of their own. I walk in the quiet, cringe at the hail of shot, knowing someone’s need, Or, god help them, those that sport only with blood lust. We do not always look that far; for some of us, we are only part Of life’s circle And chain. |
