The Valentine After time has spent the soil And age has warped the vine What now remains of loving trust In stagnant air and attic dust That fade a valentine? So many years, so many tears Have fallen on these words. Were sentiments sketched on this page Meant to survive another age Or never more be heard? I say that Valentines live on And verses never die I say that love knows of its depth In every tear, in every breath In every midnight sky And I believe the words you wrote Are roses on the vine Still meant to fill my heart with bliss Still lingering within a kiss And in this valentine Nobody knows the power of love Etched in a phrase divine But I am sure that love contained Within this valentine remains A treasure that is mine Bright hearts of red are tumbling down Through beams of attic must As vibrant as the night you gave A valentine so sweetly saved And faded in the dust Your words still touch my throbbing heart As memories slowly creep For time can tenderly enshrine The contents of a valentine, And words on which I weep Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth, How you touched my heart. I have cards from my daughter and I make sure I have one in each of my Bibles. Lovely write... If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |
