Something you must understand:
people who don't know
take turns
dancing with the shadows of
the elbows dressed in black & white
trained to trail a train of silk
they seek
a different end than us -

they greet
each other with a kiss
as though
they practiced fluttering
with a hand-held fan
daydream
of blushing natural between
the fronds of plastic
snapped in screen
mocking whisper
from behind
dangling
a
knot
and glossed
fringes giggle
bells of Saint
Mary's she begins to
ring
the parliament to home,
we sing,
"Hail Ye Ancient Holy Queen"

we free

the very hairs upon our chests.

Waving resolute
we bleed
the glory
from the pores
of need
in absolution
of ourselves
singing "Ave"
in the streets
as they hose the piss, they play
screaming our remorse

(of course)

as we worship
mother's mead
washing sins away
we seek

a better way to die.

You strung me along
and then at the end
you slapped me.

Quite well done.
Oh hey, shouldn't you be asleep or something?
It's late.

This reads very well....

The short line form is perfect for the subject, which is gritty but truthful...
The title is perfect....

I also like the fine continueity of this, how the first stanza is woven into the last..

Love it!

Karen,
How is it you consistently make me feel so shallow? LOL Or perhaps it's an IQ thing. When I read you I am so in over my head. Yet...I'm drawn back for more. Bless you sweetie, I do love you so.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I was hoping you'd post something today on Fat Tuesday.  Just knew you would, really!  I was looking for you as I was watching parades on the news today/night....no luck.  Anyhow....the poem made me smile!   .....jo

Happy Mardi Gras folks.

Thank you all for reading, and special hugs for my buddies Toe, and Larry.

I love you all dearly.

And now? I think I'll just say goodnight.

I'm tired.

Thanks again for all of your kindness.
