my name is michele
i have fear of open spaces and have social anxiety
but

i like trees and stray cats
they're like heart bouquets
they catch me when i fall

the trees are my echo
they can imagine freedom as they stretch into the sky
and never sleep with blinders on
and they can dig deep into perdition
and tie knots into ancient history
that roots and rots along the same foundation

the cats are cruising
they come to me when their tummies cry
then leave me empty plates and
never ever say thank you mam

but they know i'm here for them
and truly believe
what i try to tell some humans about me..
it's that when i love
i love forever and will never
turn my back on anyone

i don't bore easily when i find
something that touches me

the world is cold
it gets warmer when connections
come with even the folly
of tiny four legged creatures
that meow and look at me
for bellyfood

as for the trees

watch their moves

watch mine

they ache,i ache
they shiver ,i shiver
we do the seasons
like 2 mimes in a mirror

how much harder can the rain hit
how dark can the sky threaten to shake loose their growing pastels
yet they stand as martyrs in the face
of all adversity

a poet i know tells me
enough of the trees
no more nature, write real

i ask him

in all these months that i've lamented myself into sanity

with empty arms thrown up in disarray
onto the cold steel winter sky
they still embrace me

do you?

I was going to pick a stanza earlier on in the poem that had touched me then after reading the entire piece again I can only say the entire thing moved me.
This ending aches dear gal.

I love your tell it like it is poetry
and no matter how you write it,
I enjoy it.

I love your poetry of nature - and it sounds as if trees and you are symbiotic - write trees - write you - write cats - all you do is a pleasure or ache to read - that's good poetry -

hugs Michelle -  Susan

If I wander far enough, long enough, will I finally know . . .

are all brooklyners as tough as you?
i liked 'we do the seasons' most of all

and the part about 'writing real'

in this work i see promise as a writer or at least the ability to express your deepness as a human being

and i agree with earlier post: the great thing about this is that its consistent, you keep it fresh and strong the whole way through

so what's it going to be then, eh?

Smiling at the responses...

This didn't go where I expected it might, Michele...

that's what made it such a pleasant read.

I like this so much!!! *S* And as I read... I think those who answer the title with "yes" are fortunate folks. *S*

Michele, I am so pleased we have met here on these pages, because I can FEEL your poetry and I KNOW your heart and beauty through it.

This is a wonderful write.

And be sure that the cats don't come exclusively for the bellyfood ... they too feel your love.

I love your connection with the trees and the way you express this.

Love IS and you are aware of this beautiful truth.

Thank you!

Love and hugs.
Margherita
