this is a dream

this is a dream

wholly irrational
from any imaginable
point of view

this is a dream

I have no idea
what I’m doing here
a crowd in waves
moving across the room

a woman for whom I do not care
her hair in a bun like Emily
reading to me lines of poetry
this business shirt yellowed
and full of holes

this is a dream
only a dream
that’s soon to end

then you in my arms
asking forgiveness for being there

I in confusion
saying three words
in your ear

The words are searching, sensitive, feeling, observant.

I can feel with the poem.
