Walk me
into the darkness darling,
my brain is steadily dying;
I remember the power days
and the killing fields,
when I faced the world
smiling;
I ache for the feel
of your soft warm skin
so alive
in my hungry dreams,
heat shouting
the name of the soul within,
long shattered
by cold kiss goodbye.

Death is the banker for life
you know,
the quiet capital partner
in waiting,
show me the contract's codicil
that says you could leave
before me;
I think the mortgage is paid
on this hulk
that I drag
through mornings to nights,
wearing the tatters
of waking dreams,
the dreams of a broken life.

Well no one dare initiate foreclosure on your candor. The taxes only get heavier though don't they? Enjoyed as always.

A good read as usual but sad.  Some things just have to be broken before they can be fixed.

IceBox~
There are times when your thoughts are the mirror I look into ... seeing so much beyond the image looking back~

You are a word-wonder ... and each read leaves me with ponderable considerations~
Oh how you touch~

When the ache becomes the norm, you know you've got it bad.  Not to make light of your writing, icebox. I so enjoy your delves into the depth, and the visions you perceive.

I've a peculiar fondness for "last words" and I thought that I might share a few of my favorites with you:

Johann Fichte (1762-1814) German philosopher, died saying:

"Leave it alone; I need no more medicine; I feel that I am well."

Count Tolstoy (1828-1910) Russian novelist, philosopher and mystic:

"But the peasants, how do peasants die?"

Perugino (1446-1523) Italian painter, urged to see a priest, said:

"No, I am curious to see what happens in the next world to those who die unshriven."

and one of my favorites here--

George Hegel (1770-1831) German philosopher, had this to say:

"Only one man understood me."

Then dejectedly he said:

"And he didn't understand me."

(quoted directly from "All The Last Words of Saints and Sinners" by Herbert Lockyer--Kregel Publications)

Now c'mon, ante up. It's your deal, sweetie.

...and in all things,
he knew that he was left
wanting, and in waiting
he understood more;
but the more he understood,
the less he wanted
to know...

still, the cards remained
in his hand, and his mind
continued to play the odds...
